Adrian Runacres

Adrian is the Technical Advisor to the Steering Group of the National Winter Service Research Group (NWSRG) and runs his own independent consultancy business. He has a wealth of experience in highway winter service and road maintenance matters and is also frequently commissioned in an Expert capacity to undertake forensic investigations of road traffic collisions and other incidents. 

In addition to this, Adrian has led multi-disciplinary teams investigating major rail incidents.  As a result, he regularly provides written and oral evidence at Coroners’ Inquests, Fatal Accident Inquiries, Criminal Trials and Courts considering Civil Actions.  Before setting up his own consultancy business Adrian headed TRL’s Investigations and Risk Management Department and was a member of their Executive Management Committee. 

He has considerable practical experience relating to the management and maintenance of the road network, and this, coupled with his research activities, has led to a significant portfolio of published papers, as well as his involvement in the production and development of national standards and guidance such as the NWSRG Practical Guide, the UKRLG’s national Code of Practice and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges etc.
