Lee Chapman
Professor Lee Chapman has over 25 years of experience in the research and development of products for the winter road maintenance industry. This has culminated in two university spin-out companies, both acquired by US-based organisations that went on to market the products worldwide (i.e. route-based forecasting and wintersense IoT sensing).
Away from winter road maintenance, Lee has been involved in all four of the UK Climate Change Risk Assessments, focussing on infrastructure impacts. Lee also currently holds a joint chair with the UK Met Office, is a recent fellow of the Alan Turing Institute and is a past president / current secretary of the Standing International Road Weather Commission (SIRWEC).

Autonomous Gritting – The Game Changer on the Horizon?
10:30 - 10:50
- The climate is changing, but so are our vehicles (i.e. increasing electrification and autonomy).
- The management of winter risk will need to evolve appropriately.
- Given these changes, how long is the shelf-life of our existing approaches to winter road maintenance?
- Autonomous gritting will bring an unparalleled level of technological disruption to the sector.
