Glenn Lyons

Glenn Lyons is the current President of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and is the Mott MacDonald Professor of Future Mobility at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

Alongside his accomplishments as an academic, Glenn has progressively become more involved in policy and practice. With previous secondments into the UK Department for Transport and the New Zealand Ministry of Transport, Glenn has been seconded for half his time into Mott MacDonald for the past seven years.

He has worked extensively to bring forward the vision-led ‘decide and provide’ planning paradigm and is the lead author of new practitioner guidance on ‘Triple Access Planning’. He is known internationally for his constructive challenge in relation to understanding and responding to a changing and uncertain mobility landscape which is shaped by technological possibilities and societal needs and preferences.

He applies futures methods in helping transport authorities address strategic planning and has recently been appointed to the Capital Review Panel advising the UK Secretary of State for Transport. Glenn is passionate about CIHT’s three core themes of climate action, professionalism, and equality, diversity and inclusion.
